Honoring a Legacy: Logan's Run Kicks Off the All-Abilities Marathon Division πŸƒ‍♂️πŸ’™

On October 5th, Little Rock Parks & Recreation hosted Logan's Run at Murray Park—an emotional event dedicated to the memory of Logan Bussard, a beloved Therapeutic Recreation Specialist whose passion for inclusion continues to inspire our community.

This non-competitive event provided children and young adults, ages 5-25, with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities the opportunity to run, walk, or roll toward a personal goal. Participants and their families also enjoyed Scout's Fun Zone, a joyful space with games and activities celebrating the spirit of community and togetherness.

A Celebration of Inclusion 🌟

Logan's Run served as the kickoff to the All-Abilities Division of the Little Rockers Kids Marathon, offering participants a safe and supportive way to engage in the marathon experience. Between now and race weekend on March 1-2, 2025, participants will complete 25.2 miles at their own pace, finishing the final mile on the official marathon course.

Therapeutic Recreation Program Coordinator Sherrie Shinn emphasized the event's importance: "Logan believed that every child should have the chance to reach their fullest potential. This program is not just a tribute to him—it's an extension of his vision for inclusive recreation."

Continuing Logan's Mission πŸ’™

Logan's Run carries forward the legacy of a remarkable individual. Logan Bussard began his career in special education before moving into adaptive recreation, where he found his calling. His work with organizations like the Miracle League and Arkansas Special Olympics was driven by a deep commitment to inclusivity.

In 2023, Logan joined the Little Rock Parks & Recreation team, bringing fresh ideas and ambitious plans for the Therapeutic Recreation Division. His dream was to create opportunities for children with all abilities to participate in the Little Rock Marathon, fostering a sense of achievement and belonging.

Training with his loyal dog, Scout, Logan was an avid runner and a frequent participant in the Little Rock Marathon. His passion for running, combined with his dedication to serving others, made Logan an irreplaceable part of our Parks and Recreation family.

A Community United in Purpose 🫢

The spirit of Logan's Run was deeply felt throughout the day. Families, volunteers, and participants came together not only to reach personal goals but to honor a mission larger than themselves. "With the new All-Abilities Division, we can carry Logan's work forward," said Shinn. "This is about opening doors and creating opportunities for all children to thrive."

Participants proudly crossed the finish line, receiving medals and t-shirts as a celebration of their efforts. But more importantly, they took the first steps in a journey that will culminate at the Little Rock Marathon—on a course Logan himself knew so well.

Join Us in Honoring Logan's Legacy πŸ…

As we move toward the 2025 Little Rock Marathon, we invite the community to join us in supporting Logan's vision. Whether through volunteering, cheering from the sidelines, or participating in the All-Abilities Division, there are countless ways to be a part of this incredible journey.

Logan's Run reminds us that inclusion is not just an ideal—it's a practice. It's about ensuring everyone has the chance to set goals, celebrate milestones, and feel the joy of achievement. We are grateful to every participant and supporter who helped make this event so special.

Together, we run, walk, and roll toward a brighter, more inclusive future. Thank you, Logan. Your legacy lives on. πŸ’™
